HE WATCHED HER WALK ACROSS THE FIELD

He watched her walk across the field,

past the bleachers, around

the girls soccer

game,

to the War monument,

next

to Quaker

Path. She sat

on one of the large

stones, marking the battle

the Americans had lost. Someone

tossed him the ball. He face-dodged

his defender,

scored. When he looked

back,

she

was

gone.
